Mirrors from the Past
Short Film Version 1 (9:59’)
Official Selection CRASSH Film Festival 2021 (5:00’)
The stories of two Victorian adventurers, Agnes and Margret Smith, and the modern day story of the filmmaker, a brown-British, Muslim woman, separated by over 100 years intersect in Cambridge and the Middle East. This prompts the filmmaker to reflect on questions of power and perception in a post-colonial, racialised world. She asks herself if there is a difference between colonial research expeditions and her own research, unpacking oft-overlooked nuances of decoloniality and perspective.
